My Grrrrrrr-grandfather was John Nettles and he was said to have married Valentine Greatrakes' daughter Mary in London, England in ca.1647.
I reside in Charleston, S.C.(U.S.A.).
Seeking information!

Hi
I was born in Norton Disney, Lincs. My grandfather, Arthur Greatorex and mum Pearl Greatorex were born in Swinderby and Norton Disney and I've been told the family originally came from Derbyshire.
Love the site.

Avril Burrows says...
Now you'll be wondering what a Burrows is doing on this site! Well, when I was going through my late mother's box of interesting bits (we all have them you know) I found a death card relating to a member of the Greatorex family.

Avril if you see Davids book, my sister Sylvia greatorex married a Burrows from Widnes. So there is a Another Greatorex / Burrows.

It says

Death Card
"In loving memory of Sidney George Beloved husband of Lilian E Greatorex who died November 1st 1925 Aged 31 years - Interred in private grave at Witton Cemetery"

A bit of digging has revealed that he was born in Aston Manor, Birmingham in 1894 the son of John Alf (b 1859 Dudley) and Matilda (b 1861 Bishops Castle) Greatorex.

I am looking for a possible connection to the Ridley family who came from the Aston/Newton/Lozells area. They were heavily involved in the pearl button trade as were many in that area.

Hope you can help

Merry Christmas to all Graterakes (used the old spelling).

Especially to Jack Greatorex in Canada who has helped many of us in our research.
