Hi all - I have recently begun researching my family tree but have hit a snag on my husband's 3x great grandfather.

His name was THOMAS ORLANDO GREATOREX B. Abt 1803 in Staffordshire, England. Baptised 22 December 1805 at Old Church, St Pancreas, London. He died on 6 October 1883 in the Workhouse, St Giles, Endel Street, Middlesex, England. During his life time his occupation was listed as Hotel Keeper and Wine Merchant.

Thomas married twice. My husband's line is from his first marriage (in about 1840) to ELIZABETH TUPNEY(or a variation of this spelling) who was born on 25 November 1809 and baptised on 31 December 1809 at St Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England. Elizabeth died some time after 1844.

Thomas and Elizabeth had a son THOMAS HARRISON GREATOREX b. in April 1842/43 in London, England. He was my husband's Great Great Grandfather. He was apprenticed as a seaman at the age of 12. He married Ann Mary Thorne on 16 February 1871 in Sandhurst, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, therefore he emigrated from England sometime between 1855 and 1871.

THOMAS ORLANDO GREATOREX married his second wife Selina (?) B. abt 1833 in St Clements Middlesex, England and died in 1918 in Brentford, Middlesex, England. They had a son Alphonse William Claybrook Greatorex who was born in September 1860 whose occupation was Piano Tuner.

THOMAS HARRISON GREATOREX and ANN THORNE had 12 children (in Australia). My husband's Great Grandfather was their son THOMAS FREDERICK GREATOREX b. 18 June 1881. To the best of my knowledge he had 10 children with his wife ISABELLA KATHLEEN O'HARE. One of their children was ERNEST ALBERT GREATOREX b. 1916 d. 1946. This is my husband's grandfather.

I would love to hear from anyone who believe they may be connected to this branch of the Greatorex family, and share information about the family with them.

Cheers
Carmen

My family originated in North Notts but then moved to live in Sheffield, Yorkshire. I have been able to document many of my family but I do have a "brick wall", as follows. George William Greatorex married Mary Elizabeth Stocks in Sheffield on Dec 25th 1905. As far as I know they had at least one child, Constance Ann Greatorex who subsequently married a Herbert Green in the 3rd Qtr of 1934. I am keen to talk to any descendents of this family.
mgreato@jmgreatorex.freeserve.co.uk

Dorothy Gretorex, mother of George, Richard, Sarah & Jane, all baptised in Pentrich, Derbyshire from 1747 onwards. Richard later landlord/owner of the Crown Inn, Parwich (I have a copy of his will). His grandsons William and Samuel moved up to Oldham in Lancashire (wives Margaret Henthorn and Ann Mallison respectively) where they both had several children. My husband is descended from William's daughter Ann Greatorex.

Nigel Thatcher (unverified): I've just started my research into my family tree, but seem to have come to a dead end. My mother was Emma (Emmie) Eliza Greatorex (25/01/1912 - 17/05/1978 she had one sister Dorothy Constance. Their parents were William Thomas Greatorex (15/03/1873 - 11/09/1942) and Matilda Rix (01/12/1876 - 24/08/1940). Williams father, Henry Francis Greatorex (1833? - 1901), was married to Emma Mary Hudson. Henry Francis is described as a "Master Mariner" on Williams’s birth certificate and I know that they had at least one other child, Emma Mary (12/01/1880 - 14/07/1931). They were all living in London. That's as far as I can get using the Internet and my own records, (I live in Germany). If these people have cropped up in anyone else’s investigations, please get in touch. thegininn@freenet.de

My father in law Richard Greatorex moved to Yorkshire from Unstone Derbyshire with his parents, Stephen Greatorex and Mary Ellen Rogers and sister Amy about 1904. His parents were James Greatorex and Sarah Redfearn and were married at Sheffield Cathedral in 1848 and had quite a large family. James parents were Stephen Greatorex and Hannah Carnal married in 1809 in Dronfield Dby. I am looking for anyone who may have a connection to my family

Hi there. I have also traced my husbands family tree back to Stephen & Hannah Greatorex. As your post is quite old, I'm hoping you still get this message somehow. If you do, drop me a line at ayshia.turner@virgin.net and we can exchange info. James Greatorex (son of Stephen & Hannah) was my husband's 3 x Great Grandfather. Hope to hear from you.
